Thermal baths in Budapest The rich variety of thermal water sources is the cornerstone for thermal baths in Budapest. Brought by the turks a lot of baths were build up in and around Budapest bringing the Turkish tradition of bathing to Budapest. Nowadays Budapest has a big bathing culture with tourists from all over the world coming just for visiting one of the spots to relax. Out of the tons of natural water sources some baths established to be the best around. The most famous baths in Budapest are the Gellert bath in the Gellert hotel and the Széchenyi bath which are crowded almost every day even in the wintertime. We would like to introduce the baths of Budapest with pictures, short description and the website of each one:
Király bath The Király bath in Budapest was build by the Turks in the second half of the sixteenth century. Its style remained like a typical Turkish bath with its dome and the octagonal bath and it is, with the opening in 1565, the oldest among all baths in Budapest. But just in 1796 it got the name it is carrying today when the König family took over the bath who also rebuilt the bath keeping old parts and smartly mixing them with newer elements. In World War 2 the bath was destroyed and rebuilt again in 1950. The advantage of this place is that it’s affordable also for university students.
Lukács thermal bath The Lukacs Bath in Budapest was built in the 19th century, however the foundation for the bath as we know it today, dates back to the 12th century. Next to the regular visitors the Lukacs bath attracts a lot of writers and artists who might get some inspiration there. Next to swimming pools you find wellness services such as massages, mud treatments, steam baths, saunas and whirlpools. For sure in this bath you can spend a day and relax yourself from more exhausting activities you did before in Budapest.
Széchenyi bath
Széchenyi bath was built in 1913. It is one of the most famous baths and is located in the city park of Budapest, next to the Zoo. This is the largest thermal bath in Europe with various indoor and outdoor pools opened up throughout the year. The Széchenyi bath is supplied by two thermal water sources with a natural water temperature of 74°C to 77°C. Located between famous sights and in the middle of Budapest’s largest recreation area the city park it is a place which should not be missing from your to do list and also a must-see building. Weekly highlights especially for younger people are the Budapest Bath Parties (Sparty).
Gellért bath The Gellért bath is very popular nowadays and considered as the most beautiful bath of Budapest. Originally another bath was located at its place, which was demolished in 1917. They built here the Gellért hostel and medical bath, which was completed with a wave bath in 1927 and a bubble bath in 1934.
Rudas thermal bath The Rudas Bath was built in 1550 during the Turkish occupation of Hungary and like the Kiráy bath it kept its Turkish style. This thermal bath used to operate already in the middle ages, since then it was constantly improved. It got the “thermal bath”-title officially in 1928. Interesting fact: From 1936, only men were allowed to enter the bath. In 2005 – after the renewal was finished – a day was announced for women only and also mixed days when everybody could use it. Next to bathing you can book several services such as different kinds of massages, steam bath, pedicure & manicure or an underwater jet massage.

Budapest
Often described as the "Little Paris of Middle Europe", Budapest is famous not only for the monuments reflecting its own 1,000-year-old culture, but also for the relics of others who settled here. Remains from both Roman occupation and much later ruled by the Turks can still be seen in the city. After the Ottoman Empire the union with Austria has a particular influence on the city's form and style. The capital has two sides, Buda and Pest, stretching along the banks of the Danube, representing two different characters of the city. Suburban Buda and its historic castle district offer medieval streets and houses, museums, caves and Roman ruins. The dynamic Pest side boasts the largest parliament building in Europe, riverside promenades, flea markets, bookstores, antique stores and café houses. Budapest has a lot to offer. Museums and galleries, churches and synagogues, palaces and historic buildings, baths and pools are presented together with the influence of Secession in the city. There is an unmistakable feeling that something out of the ordinary is just around the corner, but what it will be is up to you to find out...
Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden (Hungarian: Fővárosi Állat- és Növénykert) is the oldest zoo park in Hungary and one of the oldest in the world. It has 1,072 animal species and is located within Városliget Park. The zoo opened its doors on 9 August 1866. The park has 1–1.1 million visitors every year. The area is a nature reserve, and has some valuable art nouveau buildings designed by Kornél Neuschloss and Károly Kós . More than 1,000 species are living there. The most special animals that are present in the zoo are the Komodo dragon and from December 2011 the wombat. The zoo is located in the city centre and can be reached by Line 1 (Budapest Metro) Official city card (Budapest card) owner gets a 25% discount for a single ticket into the zoo.
The Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2016. Our zoo experts have been working hard on making this wonderland an even more magnificent place. The zoo has recently been granted a new territory for the first time in its history which is of special importance: as much as one third of its area had gradually been taken away in the last couple of decades. Now it is time for expansion. If all goes well, most of the developments planned in the new area can be realized by its 150th birthday. 1146 Budapest, Állatkerti krt. 6-12.

A vulkanikus utótevékenység során feltörő több mint száz gejzírkúpot formáltak a félsziget területén, közülük a legszebb az Aranyház, aminek fehér szikláit napfényben aranysárga zuzmó borítja.
